About Caitlin Cordial
I’ve always been deeply curious about how other people experience life. This led me to the counseling profession, where I learned the joy of helping others grow. I believe that a harmonious connection to others, the planet, and a sense of meaning is essential to our health. As a result, I recognize the impact of systemic inequality on individual wellbeing. I utilize a climate aware, feminist, anti-racist, disability and sexuality inclusive perspective in my work.
Outside of work, you’ll find me watching shows about history, animal facts, or cultures from around the world. I love comedy, and utilize the power of humor in my professional and personal life. I am a visual artist, and a very average angler. My other identities of note include that I am a White, queer, able bodied, cisgender woman. My pronouns are she/her.
Change Through Curiosity and Compassion
I often utilize Parts Work - an approach to therapy that assumes all facets of you are working toward your survival. Just like there are parts of the body (arms, legs, the circulatory system), we can view things like anxiety, self criticism, and ambition as parts of the mind. Each part has a purpose to serve. This assumption opens the door to viewing yourself with compassion.
Have you ever thought: “I know that when I'm stressed out by ____ I'm supposed to ____, but instead I did the same unhelpful thing I always do." I work with emotions, behavioral patterns, and defenses in a way that deprioritizes shame and increases curiosity. This way, you can learn to bridge the gap between wisdom and action.
I help clients deepen self understanding by "interviewing" their parts and uncovering how or why they might be sabotaging efforts to change.
This is more than an intellectual exercise. Clients are encouraged to connect to their physical sensations, emotions, and memories that may arise as we explore their patterns.
I find that getting creative is key to this work. That is why I offer visual art, music, movement, and action methods to engage both the mind and the body in therapy.
